INTRODUCTIONChristmas time can be a funny period for a Recruiter; it can either be extremely busy or life can be quietening down as everyone prepares for a day sat down in front of the TV watching appalling television, telling appalling Christmas cracker jokes and devouring the best roast dinner of the year. That is at least the case in my house, the ‘Romans residence’, every year on 25th December.
In recent years, my December has been spent project managing the recruitment and resource planning of temporary agency staff for the Waitrose regional distribution centre in Bracknell. I certainly played a small part in ensuring that people had a Christmas dinner to put on their dining tables!
This year my focus is very different and is now turning towards our recruitment plans and engineering headcount for 2018. The employment market in Morocco is particularly buoyant in January so this will be an ideal opportunity to kick-start the year for us and make headway with our hiring plans.
2018 will be a big year for Sondrel across all our office locations. In Morocco we are looking to hire senior engineering consultants; in Hyderabad we will continue to grow our front-end verification team and the Solutions team in the UK is looking for SoC architects as well as engineering experts to lead the hardware engineering team.

Recruitment is a never-ending process that is indiscriminate to the time of year; candidates will continue to browse job boards and CVs will land in email inboxes. Such activity slows down in December, but it doesn’t cease. Organising recruitment activity such as interviews can be challenging over the holiday season, but candidate screening and networking continues.
While we expect Morocco to be a key focus in the first quarter of 2018, we expect to see considerable movement in the UK job market during this time.
Without making this article sound like recruitment’s answer to the Queen’s Speech, (apologies to all those who don’t get the cultural reference), December is a time for reflection, contemplation, and for generally taking stock, including the possibility of a job move in the New Year.
I did consider starting my blog with the opening line: “Dear Santa, I would like a new job as an SoC Verification Engineer, can you help?”. That would’ve been slightly too cringeworthy. I might not be Santa (I look rubbish in the outfit due to the lack of a beer belly), but I can at least help you with your job search.
